Martin Townsend
UKAEA, Head of Business Development

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) hosts the UK’s national fusion research laboratory, based at Culham Science centre, with a mission to lead the commercial development of fusion power and related technologies. Martin Townsend has been working for UKAEA for over 8 years and started as the Engineering Installation Group Leader and Project Manager Mast Upgrade. The past couple of years, he has been the Head of the Business Development Department, focusing on developing the UKAEA’s business units, innovation and supporting industry. One of UKAEA’s main missions is to enable economic growth and new High-Tec jobs in the UK, which is exactly what Martin’s department is working towards. He has over 35 years’ experience working within industry, having worked for large companies such as Oxford Instruments plc.
