Nick de Pennington

Digital Population Health & Innovation Lead, Oxford University Hospitals

Nick is a clinical leader who trained at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. He spent 10yrs as a frontline neurosurgeon but following completion of training he saw the opportunities to deliver better value healthcare through digital health and moved into the senior management team of OUH NHS Trust. He co-founded a digital health innovation programme that is funded by the EU and is founder of Ufonia, a digital health start-up supported by Innovate UK and the Science and Technology Facilities Council. In his NHS role he is responsible for developing the Trust’s digital health innovation pathways, as well as implementation of Oxfordshire’s digital population health solutions that will deliver more integrated patient-centred care.

Technologies underpinning Digital Health

Digital health is transforming healthcare across the whole patient pathway from prevention, through diagnosis and intervention, to ongoing monitoring across a broad range of care settings. At the heart of this transformation is the ability to analyse large datasets of information and through AI develop novel insights. The first session on digital health will look at some of the approaches underpinning this transformation, and explore their impact across clinical AI and imaging. This transformation is also opening up new ways of addresses innovation challenges within healthcare systems.

Building an NHS Trust Innovation Pathway

This talk will describe the digital health innovation pathway that is being implemented at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It will focus on the opportunities that are being created through an open API development environment that is being implemented for our electronic health record systems.

Digital Health Applications

In this session we will explore the different ways in which digital health technologies have been applied in product development and in the types of applications that are becoming available to patients, clinicians and healthcare providers. A series of leading developers will showcase their innovations to demonstrate the breadth and diversity of opportunity that digital health now offers, highlighting the vibrancy of the digital health sector across the region. Selected innovations span remote monitoring, imaging, digital therapies, mental health applications and autonomous conversation systems.
