Useful Information

This year’s event will take place both in person and online. You will find all the information you need to know if you’re attending physically or virtually. If you have any questions, please email the event team at [email protected].


Arrival and Registration

In person registration will take place at the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Reception, also known as the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), just off Fermi Avenue.  When you arrive, please collect your badge from the registration desk. Please bring a form of photo ID with you and have your confirmation email on your phone when you arrive. The event team will then direct you to the conference room.

Please note, if you are driving you will need to park your car before walking to reception as there are no parking facilities for events at the reception.

If you are attending virtually and you have already purchased your virtual ticket, please follow your email instructions to join the event on the day.



There is a cloakroom located in the STFC Visitor Centre. Please note this is for coats and jackets only. No bag storage is available. For security reasons we ask that all bags and valuable items are kept with you at all times.



The in person exhibition will be located in the STFC Visitor Centre.

The virtual exhibition is accessible through the event platform, Hopin on the event day from 13:00 to 18:00.

Health and Safety

For those attending in person, we are asking all attendees to do a lateral flow test 24 hours before the event. Please do not come to the event if you have COVID-19 symptoms, or a positive lateral flow test. Masks should be worn at all times in the building.

The event is at 50% capacity so it is possible to socially distance as required.

The session room also has an air monitor as a way of indicating the level of ventilation in a space. The ventilation will be monitored during the day.   In the event of rising levels, please follow the instruction of the STFC Event Team.



Complimentary refreshments will be available in the STFC Visitor Centre throughout the afternoon.



Please do not leave any bags or personal belongings unattended.



For those attending in person, seating in sessions is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can view the full programme here.

For those attending virtually all sessions will take place on the main stage.



Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the buildings. If you do wish to smoke, please use the designated smoking area.



If you are driving to the event, please park in the visitor car park on Frome Road, accessed via the A4185. The car park is a 10-minute walk to the reception. You can download the car park and walking directions map here.

If you are travelling by train, Didcot Parkway is the closest rail station to the campus, 5 miles away and there is a taxi rank at the station. There is also a Harwell Connector Bus from the station to Harwell Campus which runs on a regular basis.

The event will be held in the STFC Visitor Centre and Pickavance Lecture Theatre, at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.

Virtual Event Platform

We are using the virtual event platform Hopin for this year’s event. You can access the event through a laptop, tablet or mobile device. The link to access the event on the day is: The platform will be open from 13:00 to 18:00.

The app will allow you to view the sessions (both live and recorded), network and visit the virtual exhibition. We recommend you download the app in advance of the event.

If you wish to access wifi at the event you will need to register for this in advance. Please complete the request form and insert [email protected] as the sponsor/host.  This will be approved on the day of the event and confirmation will be sent to your email and or mobile with the appropriate codes.
